Lithic Encounters is an audio guide that combines stories about stones and mountains with somatic tasks. Stone tools, ritual stones and mined mountains speak to the participants and invite them to connect through their bodies, while listening to stories about geological formations, their magical power and the exploitation of nature as a resource. Lithic Encounters enables the participants to acknowledge stones and mineral formations as living entities with particular biographies instead of mere resources, exploring their relationship with personal memories and the traces of erased territories throughout history. Lithic Encounters took place in South London Gallery’s Orozco Garden and Clore Studio in May 2022. After the guided walk, the group was invited to come together and share their experiences collectively. In July 2022 a short version of the audio guide was also presented in the Barbican Centre’s public program.
