Invocations of Remembrance

2021

Invocations of Remembrance is a performative exploration of the sensory connection between human and more-than-human entities. Through different tangible and invisible objects, a timeless landscape is evoked in which human figures engage in a silent language of dance and gestures. Human figures interact with organic shaped entities withholding animated mineral landscapes, tracing the presence of invisible entities with their fingers and communicating through a long-lost language of gestures.

Clay stones resembling prehistoric stone tools, are receivers of touch and whispers, remembering ancient magical practices and their relationship with language beyond words. Hanging objects made of knotted fibre strings resembling pre-colonial rrecording devises of the Andes, destroyed by the European colonial enterprise, leaving only a few hundred surviving objects. Today, most of the content remains unknown. While doing knots human figures try to evoke the memory of objects whose meaning has been lost.
